Careers: Life at RTW
Jim Nelson
Designer
I came to Realtime Worlds after spending time as a Level Editor and Environment Artist in Newcastle. I was expecting more of the same overtime, corporate outlook and bad management but was surprised at what I found. The working environment is very relaxed and very productive because of it and we receive paid overtime which is a very new thing in this industry.
The first thing that really grabbed my attention as an artist was the in-house tools and how much effort they save, particularly the Unreal3 tools which really open a game up for the non coder. The ability for one person to design and create a whole playable city is certainly a reality here.
I spent some time in the Royal Navy and have been all round the globe but have never been somewhere that has so many nationalities under one roof. Everyone is friendly and helpful and there’s always a good number of people who like to go out and socialise at weekends.
I would recommend working here, the company is solid so job security is quite safe and the amount you learn will certainly give you lots of strings to your bow should you ever decide to move on.
