Careers: Life at RTW

Ross Mills

QA Tester

After University ended, I (along with everyone else) started searching for a job to settle down into. When Realtime Worlds’ Testing position appeared, I jumped at the opportunity. I was, however, worried that my skillset would not be quite relevant to the position. I was very wrong. On joining the team, my skills and experience were taken into account and I was given every opportunity to help the company by both performing personal research on things that I know, as well as giving presentations.

While at Realtime Worlds, I am very grateful to have been given every opportunity to increase my working skillset. Through programming tutorials, multiple training sessions, and the ability to investigate Games Design I have increased my knowledge of games development to an extent that reaches and has surpassed what I learned on my university course.

The day-to-day work of QA has been something I look forward to on a daily basis. Like any project, seeing it iterate, evolve, and become something I can be proud of being a part of has been incredibly exciting. Whenever a new build of a system comes in, I always find myself itching to get a look at it and see what new aspect has been created.

Finally, in terms of the people and atmosphere here, the working environment has been incredibly friendly. There are a good number of laughs that emanate from the office halls during the day, and people tend to move in large, talkative groups to the local fooderies at lunchtime. I’ve even managed to get a Dwarf Paladin, a Tiefling Ranger and an Eladrin Rogue for my regular D&D group from people who have worked within just a few metres of me!

In short, working at Realtime Worlds has been an experience that I would never wish to miss, and I very much look forward to us letting loose the products we intend to shock the world with in future.
