Careers: Life at RTW
Mauro Pane
QA Tester
As a member of QA, I am fortunate to see the work of an entire team coming together, and to help them locate, and fix bugs. Over the time that I have been working at Realtime Worlds, I have learned a great deal about the industry of video games, and it has been a great opportunity for me to meet some of the most experienced people in the field, as well as some of my childhood “celebrities”.
I was amazed to find out how flexible working times are, and how available and helpful the people I work with readily are. It is probably the best way to set foot into the industry, and work our way up, as there are so many opportunities available to us to improve our current positions, that often I find myself sad when I see my friends changing departments as they progress through their careers.
Work can be stressful at times, and our job is often very tiring as we may have to work overtime, often until late, in order to ensure a smoother experience for the rest of the team, or simply give our contribution with special tasks, but even on those days, the other testers here and I, often enjoy ourselves so much it is hard to believe we are actually working, and the days fly by. Being with cool people with your same interests is great!
We also have the privilege to make as many suggestions as we wish in order to improve the game, and that is quite special, as you often feel that you have actually contributed in improving the game when you see your ideas being implemented in the game. There is no doubt on how much our work helps contributing to the growth of the project, just like when helping those who are new to the job which is very rewarding in the end, and it helps you develop communication skills as well as to make new friends.
Home is far away back in Italy, but being in Realtime Worlds feels like being part of a large family, so I do not get homesick too much, thanks to these wonderful people.
